Ouvrage présenté au Collège de France le 22 mars 2016 à l’occasion du séminaire du Pr. Emmanuel Jacquemin, expert en hépatologie et transplantation hépatique pédiatriques.
Un père, au chevet de son fils hospitalisé, décide de tromper la mort qui plane sur l’enfant en racontant une dernière histoire : la saga familiale. Cette odyssée traverse l’Europe et les époques.
Une finlandaise épouse un russe qui refuse de devenir pope orthodoxe malgré la promesse faite à son père. Une française enceinte de son premier enfant se marie avec un pilote de la Luftwaffe en pleine Seconde Guerre mondiale. L’histoire de ces quatre grands-parents prouve que la passion peut s’élever au-dessus des conflits entre les nations. Le père va jeter toutes ses forces dans cet inégal combat face à la mort avec pour seul but de gagner du temps.
Ce récit de vie sous forme d’une pièce de théâtre à la fois tendre et drôle pose cette question : quels héritages familiaux voulons/pouvons/devons-nous accepter ou refuser ?Il est peut-être temps de regarder dans la valise que chaque génération transmet à la suivante pour prendre un peu de recul et, pourquoi pas, vivre sa vie à soi.
